Brian Wijnandts

CTO

Brian is our front-end developer. He ensures that everything you see in our Focus Feedback application works and looks nice. When Brian is not working at his computer, he occasionally picks up his guitar. He even treated us to some music in the morning during a digital meeting. The interview revealed something we never expected from Brian!

If you were allowed to swap with one of your colleagues for 1 day, who would you like to swap with?

“Actually I don’t want to trade with anyone, I love what I do. But if I had to choose, I would choose Jos because I would almost do the same job. Jos works with the back-end, which is more in the background. I like working on the front of the application more because it is more visual. I build something that our customers see on the screen. ”

What exactly do you do with your work as a developer?

“You could compare my work to tackling a building. I use an existing building (a framework) and I ensure that it is decorated. I make sure that the doors can open and close, that there are windows and that there is a nice colour on the walls. Making an empty building functional, but slightly different.”

What did you spend your first earned salary on?

“With my first salary, I bought a professional surfboard. I used to be quite a fanatic about windsurfing. At wind force 5 or 6 I jumped on the bike with my surf gear and headed for the water. I loved that! ”

Brian used to want to be a pilot because of his uncles who worked as a helicopter pilot, and because of the movie Top Gun. His current profession as a front-end developer did not even exist then! But we were curious about his first part-time job.

“My first job was a newspaper delivery boy when I was 15 years old. I always had to pick up the newspapers by bike at 5:00 am. But one day I thought, I’ll use my dad’s car to pick up the papers. That went well for a long time, until the police arrested me. My parents were called from bed and I was placed in a police cell. Eventually I had to go to Bureau Halt and it cost me 18 hours of community service. That is also the worst thing I have done. I got my driving license very energetically, haha! “

We don’t know Brian as the bad-ass he used to be, so that’s a fun fact! He is a pleasant hardworking colleague who is not averse to joking in his time. A valuable addition to our Focus Feedback team!
